Aboriginal (?) signaling device in Crocodile Dundee II?

In the movie Crocodile Dundee II when Mick and friends draw the drug runners to the Northern Territories, Mick is on a hilltop and uses a device that is on the end of a rope/string. He swings it and it makes an odd sound like a low toned, slowed down siren. Does anyone know what this device is called?
