What is the worst thing that has happened to you since the United States economy fell into this huge decline?

Well we were planning on moving and buying a house, my husband was promised to be hired on with a increase in pay. The company underwent a hiring freeze and he still is under contract not hired on and we have not moved up to the area (which is 2 hours away) because we cannot get a loan to purchase a decent house anymore since banks have tightened their belts and our states local housing loan program is no longer lending.
