What makes you make friendships with other people?

How do people draw your friendship to them? I'm sure everyone is different, and you might be hard pressed to give a example to sum up all your relationships, but surely over all there's a few show stoppers in your book. Which, I'd imagine gives you a loose guideline, where people can be flawed, yet only imperfect.
